Rolling green hills, perfectly manicured landscaping, scenic vistas… There’s nothing quite like teeing off at a top course. Whether you’re looking for a casual course or a chance to test your skills, Minneapolis offers plenty of options.
In fact, many of the courses in the area are award-winning and have received national recognition! If you’re looking for a way to get outside and enjoy the spring weather on the links, be sure to check out the holes at these top courses.
Interlachen Country Club
A private country club located in Edina, the Interlachen Country Club has hosted multiple national competitions since it opened in the early 1900s. The course was created by famed golf course designer Donald Ross and is beautifully set against the European-style architecture of the clubhouse.
In addition to the course, Interlochen also offers members access to a private swimming pool, tennis courts, spa center, fitness center, and more.
The Minikahda Club
Did you know that the Minikahda Club is the oldest country club on this side of the Mississippi? Founded in 1898, the name of the club is Dakota for “by the side of the water,” which sums up the course’s stunning location just off Lake Calhoun.
The site for the 2017 USGA Senior Amateur Championship, this Donald Ross-designed course also offers access to a full-service Pro Shop, three PGA Golf Class A professionals, and two assistant professionals. Need to train before you hit the course? Just head to the high-tech Indoor Golf Learning Center!
Olympic Hills Golf Club
Olympic Hills is known for its breathtaking natural beauty. Although the club was founded more recently than others—in 1969—the par-72 course has established a reputation as one of the best options in the state, especially for golfers looking for a little scenery during their play-through.
The Eden Prairie-based club also offers impressive practice facilities, including a 350-yard driving range, 2 chipping greens, and a putting green.
Hazeltine National
Although Hazeltine National is a little over a half-hour away from Minneapolis, it’s well-worth the trip. Hazeltine National’s main purpose is to act as a regular host of national competitions, and it has a full slate for the next few years, with the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in 2019, the U.S. Amateur Championship in 2024, and the Ryder Cup in 2028.
The Hazeltine National website offers in-depth guides and photos of each hole on the course. If you want to get a head-start on strategy or just want to take in the scenery of the course, be sure to visit the page before your trip.
White Bear Yacht Club
Ranked as the fifth-best golf course in the state, White Bear Yacht Club is so beautiful that famed author F. Scott Fitzgerald spent a summer at the course back in the 1920s, where he gained inspiration for writing his next book—and hit the links every now and then, too.
Another course designed by the renowned Donald Ross, White Bear Yacht Club is known for reeling people back in time and time again to conquer the challenging green.
